Assumption of Mary
The Catholic Church celebrates the Assumption of the Virgin Mary on August 15th.
It is believed that the Virgin Mary, body and soul, was taken up into Heaven.
This doctrine was defined as an ex cathedra of papal infallibility by Pope Pius XII November 1, 1950.
This day is a public holiday in many Catholic countries.
