The 16th President

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States. (1861-1865). He was president during the Civil War (1861-1865). Lincoln was against slavery.

He was only 56 years old when he was shot. He died the following day.

The 16th Amendment

The 16th Amendment (1913) made it legal to obtain income tax in the United States. The Government now had legal authority to collect income tax from individuals and corporations.

King Jotham

King Jotham reigned 16 years in Jerusalem. He did what was good in the eyes of the Lord. 2 Kings 15:32-33.

The son of King Jotham, King Ahaz also reigned 16 years. He did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord. 2 Kings 16: 1-2

The French wedding was held at Versailles on May 16, 1770.

Papua New Guinea declared independency from Australia on September 16, 1975.

Margaret was named patron saint of Scotland in 1673. Margaret (1045-1093) was queen of Scotland from 1058 to 1093. She was married to King Malcolm III of Scotland.

Queen Margaret spent much of her time in charitable work and founded many hostels, monasteries and churches.

She died on November 16, 1093. Margaret was canonized in 1250 by Pope Innocent IV. Her feast day is November 16.
